DEAR SUN SPOTS: Due to extenuating circumstances, Tommy’s Feral Felines unfortunately had to cancel our bake sale for the first time in over 40 years. Because of this, our nonprofit is missing out on a massive portion of funds, potentially leaving our feline friends in the cold.
Please help us support the local feral cat community this winter by sending a check to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends, P.O. Box 274, Greene, ME 04236 or donate online at tommysferalfelinefriends.com. The donation information is at the bottom of web page.
Donations are also accepted at Axis Natural Foods, 120 Center St. in Auburn. — No name, Auburn
ANSWER: I’m so sorry to hear that you had to cancel your bake sale but trust that all of you who support Tommy’s will continue to do so. Sun Spots has been putting out the word about this nonprofit for many years and my hope is that this letter reaches those in the community who can help forward Rose’s mission to feed and shelter feral kitties through the winter.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read about the church in Farmington that accepts donated Christmas decorations (Dec. 12 Sun Spots). Do you know if there are any groups like that in the Lewiston-Auburn area?
I have some decorations I would be happy to donate to an organization, but I can’t see driving all the way to Farmington. — Linda, no town
ANSWER: I don’t know of any organizations specifically looking for holiday decorations in L-A but I am putting out the word and I’m sure a Sun Spotter will help us.
There are a couple ways for our readers to assist. If you know of an organization that can use these offered decorations to add joy to a holiday celebration in L-A, or if you would be willing to transport this reader’s donation to Fairbanks Church in Farmington, let me know. Lastly, if any members of Fairbanks Union Church see this and want to connect with Linda for arrange pickup, send me a note and I’ll make it happen.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The white Christmas tree I offered in the Dec. 17 Sun Spots is gone. Thank you very much! — No name, Auburn
ANSWER: That was easy!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for someone in this area who repairs braided rugs. I have one that my grandmother made that is in desperate need of repair. — No name, New Gloucester
ANSWER: I’m putting the word out and am confident someone in Sun Spots Land with the matching skill set can help you. This is surely a precious possession and we want it treated with TLC.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is the time of year that we really miss Mary’s Candy Shop, which was in Lewiston for so many years. I’m trying to find a good place to buy ribbon candy. Do you have a place in your Rolodex? I prefer not to travel too far. — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: You’re in luck! I saw a post about ribbon candy on Lewiston Rocks’ Facebook page recently. The person who posted got many local leads that included Walmart, Walgreen’s, Reny’s, Market Basket, Shaw’s, and Hannaford. Len Libby’s in Scarborough also sells this old-time favorite.
