TJ Hurley scored seven of his 18 points during a 20-1 run in the second half that carried Vermont to a 67-62 win over Maine in an America East men’s basketball game Thursday night in Burlington, Vermont.
Maine (3-16, 1-3 America East) trailed 32-30 at halftime but scored 13 straight points to open a 47-35 lead with 13:56 remaining. A dunk by Keelan Steele made it 49-37 with 13:06 left, but that was the last basket for the Black Bears until a 3-pointer by Ryan Mabrey with 2:06 remaining.
Sean Blake scored 17 points and Ben Johnson had 14 for Vermont (11-7, 3-0).
Steele led Maine with 17 points, followed by TJ Biel with 12.
