Federal investigators Monday arrested a suspect in Auburn accused of gunning down a man in Georgia in November 2025.

The U.S. Marshals Service tracked down 22-year-old Dameon Jaquan Thomas of Georgia on a warrant charging him with murder in connection with the Nov. 1 shooting in Wadley, Georgia, according to the service.

Thomas was also wanted on a federal warrant from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives charging him with possession of a machine gun.

On Feb. 16, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations asked for assistance from police in Maine in locating and arresting Thomas, according to the Marshals Service.

This week, the Marshals Violent Offender Task Force tracked down Thomas at a home in Auburn with help from local police. Authorities did not indicate the location of the home.

Investigators said Thomas was arrested without incident and is expected to be extradited to Georgia to face the charges against him.

Thomas is accused, along with other suspects, of shooting and killing a 20-year-old during an altercation in Georgia.

Police believe Thomas fled Georgia shortly after the shooting and has been hiding out in Maine since.

“Crossing state lines does not grant escape,” said Kevin Neal, Maine’s chief deputy of the U.S. Marshals Service, “it only strengthens our resolve. . . . We will locate you, apprehend you, and return you to face justice. No fugitive is beyond our reach.”
