The 2026 election is the most important of our lifetimes. What path will we take? I choose the path of democracy, our formerly respected place as a world leader, taking care of our veterans and senior citizens, protecting Medicare and Social Security and preserving the American dream.
Thankfully, under Article I of the U.S. Constitution, voting is the states’ responsibility. For me, a former Auburn city manager, Cumberland County manager and Lewiston assistant city administrator, who respects the work public servants do and the important role a competent government plays, the path is obvious.
Of course, one of the most significant races in the country is right here in Maine with the seat that Trump and MAGA supporter Sen. Susan Collins holds. In my case, I have heard
Graham Platner speak and I offer kudos on his speaking style. But when I think about Gov. Janet Mills’ qualifications — her journey of public service and what she brings to
the position of United States senator — the path forward is crystal clear.
Gov. Mills deserves our respect and support, including her work with the Legislature, balancing state budgets, working with both parties, guiding us through the pandemic and standing up to Trump’s impulses to blurt out whatever he is thinking, to retaliate and to get revenge against those who challenge him.
I urge Democrats, independents and supporters of the Grand Old Republican Party — not the Trump-led political party — to join me in supporting Gov. Mills. Janet has the right stuff.
