The West Paris Water District is holding a public hearing March 9 to share information and collect public input on its application to the Maine Public Infrastructure Grant Program.
The hearing will take place at the Town Office on Kingsbury Street at 5 p.m.
The utility has less than two years to replace its deteriorating holding tank, estimated to cost $2.64 million. It is required to update its infrastructure by Dec. 31, 2027, to comply with the operational consent agreement issued last year by the Maine Drinking Water Program.
The town of West Paris applied for the grant through the Maine Office of Community Development in January. If approved, West Paris will be responsible to match 25% of the amount granted.
West Paris and the water district will apply for $1.64 million through Maine’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, which administers federal funds to disadvantaged communities.
Utility trustees and the district’s contracted operator, Maine Rural Water Association, are executing a plan to have as much of the expense as possible covered by the grant and the revolving fund program.
