I would like to add my voice to those who have already written to protest the president’s illegal war in Iran, on top of his unjustified attacks and threats of attack on other parts of the world.
Congress has the power to restrain Trump’s war-making spree and I call on them to act without delay to do this. Trump claims to have our country’s interests at heart but there was no threat to Americans from Iran; in fact, his actions increased any potential threat to national security. He has begun to demolish our relationships with our closest allies, turning on them for daring to disagree with him.
We have a president who is so hostile to any disagreement from these allies (or anybody) that he screams over social media that he does not want a Pope who speaks up for peace. This is not only horrific (nothing new for him) but — and I say this as a Jew, not a Catholic — a blatant and disgusting attack on every human value.
It is time for yet another impeachment. Maybe this one will succeed. At the very least, it is time to invoke the 25th Amendment. The man we elected to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution” is taking it, and our country’s people, deeper into peril.
