WATERFORD – Arthur T. Kosiavelon, a man of intellect, craftsmanship, and a deep love for the simple pleasures of life, passed away April 13, 2026, in his home in Waterford, Maine, at the age of 77.
Born on June 19, 1948, in Lowell, Mass., Arthur was the son of Theodore Kosiavelon and Pauline LaCouture. He grew up with a strong work ethic and a curiosity that led him to pursue higher education at Plymouth State University, where he earned his Master’s Degree.
Arthur’s professional life was a unique blend of the academic and the practical. He spent years as a teacher shaping young minds, but he was equally at home on a roof. As a former roofer, he possessed a grit and physical toughness that stayed with him throughout his life. In his retirement, Arthur’s hands were rarely still. He turned his woodworking skills into a beloved hobby, building high-quality picnic tables that became staples in backyards across his community.
A true enthusiast of the “Golden Age” of automobiles, Arthur spent his spare time admiring and tinkering with classic cars. However, his most loyal companions were his dogs, all of whom he affectionately named Peedee. Whether he was working in his shop or relaxing in the Maine woods, a “Peedee” was never far from his side.
Arthur was predeceased by his father, Theodore, his stepmother, Ruth Kosiavelon, his birth mother, Pauline LaCouture; and his brothers, Frank Kosiavelon, Stephen Kosiavelon, and Joel Johnson. He is survived by his siblings, Roseanne McLaughlin, Glenn Johnson, and CJ Johnson.
Though he never had children of his own, Arthur found joy in his “honorary” grandsons, Travis and Stephen Kosiavelon. Every year, as the weather turned warm, he would return to his hometown to be near them and watch them grow.
Arthur leaves behind a legacy of hard work, independence, and the many friends he made through his teaching and his craft. As the saying goes, “The measure of a man is found in the things he builds with his hands and the kindness he shows to his dogs.”
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 857 Main St., Fryeburg. There will be a burial to follow at Pulpit Rock, Rt. 118, Waterford.
