Lisbon Fire Chief Sean Galipeau speaks to the media Monday, announcing the department’s efforts to educate, distribute and install smoke detectors in all 4,388 homes in town. Starting April 11, firefighters will check for smoke alarms in homes and educate families on their importance. Safe Kids Maine donated $500 to help pay for the program, but other donations will be sought. Galipeau said it is important to have a detector on every level of a home, especially outside of sleeping quarters, to avoid a tragedy like the fire last month that killed two children.
