LEWISTON — Maine Special Olympics held its regional aquatics meet at the YWCA of Central Maine on March 18, with 85 athletes competing.
Maine will send three Special Olympians to Greece to compete in the Special Olympic World Games. Local swimmer, Megan Dyer, of the Navigators, will be one of the athletes traveling to Greece and will prepare for the World Games in a spring training session in San Diego, Calif.
“Special Olympics have allowed Navigators to do some amazing things,” said Michelle Roy of John Murphy Homes. The Special Olympics state meet will be held at Bates College on Wednesday, April 13.
The YWCA provides the only public, handicap accessible pool in the Androscoggin County area and is host to several community organizations utilizing the pool to train aquatic athletes of all abilities throughout the year.
Auburn Special Ed, Life Center, Margret Murphy Center, RSU 16 and Navigators, a community support program of John Murphy Homes, participate in the aquatics programming at the YWCA, 130 East Ave.
