ROCKPORT — The latest online lecture of a weekly alumni lecture series is scheduled to feature photographer David Hilliard from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27.
He will discuss his four-decade-long project of photographing his father, ending during the pandemic, “My Father’s Life in Pictures: A Collaboration.” The lecture is hosted by Maine Media Workshops + College Provost Elizabeth Greenberg.
Hilliard for years has been actively documenting his life and the lives of those around him, recording events and attempting to create order in a sometimes chaotic world. While his photographs focus on the personal, the familiar and the simply ordinary, the work strikes a balance between autobiography and fiction.
In this lecture, Hilliard will examine the joys and challenges of his decades-long photographic collaboration with his dad and the commitment to see the project through until the very end.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
