POLAND — The Tri-Town Optimist Club of Mechanic Falls, Minot, and Poland is proud to announce its October Student of the Month!

Sixth-grader Adalyn Martin, from Poland Community School, was recognized as our Optimist Student of the Month for October. Adalyn is described by her teacher as a student who consistently demonstrates leadership, respect, and optimism – even on days that are tough, as well as a steadfast willingness to advocate for herself and others through mature dialogue. Adalyn has proven herself to be not only an academic powerhouse but in many ways more importantly… she has proven herself to be mindful, focused, respectful, and a leader through her actions and words. A perfect example of good character.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
