Lewiston Adult Education and Auburn Adult & Community Education has put together it’s Winter-Spring 2022 brochure which features Chair Zumba, basket weaving, chickens, and conversational Somali classes among its new schedule. The brochure is dedicated in the memory of Edward Little High School teacher Larry Gordon, who died last fall. Gordon did the design and layouts for Lewiston and Auburn brochures.

The schedule will include in-person and online options, in-person classes will be held at the Adult Learning Center in Longley School, 145 Birch St. in Lewiston. Students will be required to wear masks during all in-person classes.

Becki Leighton will teach Chair Zumba. Participants remain seated in the class while participating in a workout to up-tempo music. Leighton’s class is set to begin March 8.

Longtime basket weaving teacher Martha Chessie will hold one more class for Lewiston Adult Education before retiring. Students can register for her Apple Basket class, which is scheduled for April 13.

Siad Shaleh will return to teach Somali languages classes. Introductory Somali starts Feb. 10, and Somali Intermediate begins March 17. Both classes will have a focus on conversational skills.

Dr. Colt Knight of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension has a class set for April 13 on keeping chickens. The livestock specialist will cover topics including nutrition, winter care, and predators.

A standup comedy class will return with Dawn Hartill. Students will work on developing a routine with feedback from classmates. The final exam will be a performance in front of an audience.

The brochure is scheduled to go out to Lewiston and Auburn homes by mid-January. People also can register by going to lewiston.maineadulted.org.
