AUBURN — Poisson’s opened its New Auburn Little League major division season with a 4-3 victory over VFW at Pulsifer Field.

Zach Boyd allowed just three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out 12 for Poisson’s in five innings. Cameron Dubay led the offense with two RBIs, while Caelan Pelletier and Boyd each drove in a run.

The pitching efforts of Brandon Case and Griffin Verril kept the game close. They allowed just four runs on five hits and five walks while striking out 11 for VFW. Verrill also had two hits and an RBI for VFW. Donavon Cunningham’s two-run double in the fifth to cut the lead to one. A.J. Bouthot also had two hits and scored a run for VFW.

South Lewiston

LEWISTON —  In the opening game in the Major Division for both teams at South Lewiston, Gendron’s Seafood defeated defending league champion Hammond Lumber 1-0 in a hard fought pitching duel.

Pitching for Gendron’s was Sam Blaisdell, who was on top of his game, allowing only one hit and one walk with 15 strikeouts. The one hit was a triple down the right field line by Colby Bilodeau.

Also pitching an outstanding game was Jacob Strout for Hammond. He allowed three hits.

In the final inning, Gendron’s Austin Merritt made a great hustle play to beat out an infield hit that eventually allowed him to advance to third. Otis Caron drove him in with a clutch hit, a solid single to right.

Solid defensive performances by Caden Smith and Jack Leblond for Gendron’s and Cooper Millett, Noah Jalbert and Jacob Labbe for Hammond contributed to the lengthy stalemate.

In South Lewiston Major Softball, Patti Gagne Allstate defeated PALS, 20-10. Makayla Nadeau threw a complete game to Danielle Cyr for the win. Pitching for PALS was Tori Mathieu. Both teams gave an all-out effort on offense and defense.

Auburn Suburban

AUBURN — Auburn Fire Fighters topped East Auburn in their second game of the Auburn Suburban Little League major division baseball season, 16-5.

East Auburn’s Tim Torres pitched most of the game and singled to drive in Ben Cassidy for the first run. Jahvon Coney drove in Daniel Nalley for EA’s second run. Giles Paradie finished up the pitching duties.

Shammond Thomas, Tyler Blanchard, Noah Yarnevich, Kyle Herald, Austin Cox, Tyler Libby and Patrick Ivers combined with 12 hits for AFF, topped by Cox (3-for-3 with a home run) and Blanchard (3-for-3, two doubles, triple). On the mound for AFF were Libby, Caleb Yarnevich, Ivers, Robbie Marcotte and Herald.

Elliot Ave.

LEWISTON — United Ambulance opened its Elliot Ave. Little League season with a bang, defeating Skelton, Taintor & Abbott, 10-4, on Tuesday evening.

Grant Hartley got the start on the hill for United and allowed no hits along with six strikeouts and four walks to blank Skelton through the first three innings. Jeremy Rancourt of Skelton didn’t fare as well, giving up five quick runs on 5 walks and a two-run double by Hartley.

Sean O’Donnell Jr. pitched admirably for the next two innings for Skelton, striking out five despite allowing three runs on Hartley’s second double and an RBI single by Jess Lopez. O’Donnell also helped his cause with a double and a steal.

Damien St.Pierre relieved Hartley in the third, and despite good command, gave up four runs (two earned) while striking out four.

Rancourt of Skelton had a double and a triple to lead Skelton hitters. Tommy Turgeon of United also had a base knock. Jean-Luc Dostie closed the door on Skelton in the sixth with three straight strikeouts. 

United Ambulance (1-0) faces Elite Auto Sales (1-1) on Saturday at 11:30 .am. Skelton, Taintor, & Abbott (0-2) faces Melanson Paving (1-0) Friday at 5:30 p.m.

In other games, Melanson defeated Skelton 3-0 and Anthoine Financial beat Elite Auto 4-3 Saturday. Elite exacted revenge on Monday, edging Anthoine 5-4.
