LEWISTON — The Maine Public Broadcasting Network is celebrating the arts. A jury of arts professionals has selected 130 pieces donated by artists, galleries and private collectors for the 10th annual art exhibit and auction benefiting MPBN radio and television stations.
On the auction block will be a selection of art and crafts, including oils, watercolors, encaustics, acrylics, mixed media, photographs, fabric art, pottery, wood, jewelry, sculpture and glass.
People may view the exhibit and bid on items from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at MPBN, 1450 Lisbon St.; at an opening reception from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 12; by appointment through June 17; or online at auction.mpbn.net.
“We are grateful to the many artists who year after year support MPBN through the generous donation of their work,” said auction director Margie Oxman. Participating area artists include Richard Field and Quiltessentials of Auburn; Roderick Dew of Danville; Ray Michaud and McIntosh & Tuttle of Lewiston; Gil Bolduc of Mexico; Alice McKay Barnett of Carthage; Richard Vieira of New Gloucester; Hammond Hill Designs of Peru and Barbara Traficonte of Waterford.
The in-studio live and on-TV auction will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 18. This is the first time the art auction will be held in Lewiston and live on television. People will be able to veiw the art and tour MPBN between 5 and 6 p.m. The auction will begin at 6 o’clock, led by Fred Olsen of James D. Julia, Auctioneers of Fairfield.
People can bid live in the studio or watch TV from home and bid by phone by registering in advance. Refreshments and a cash bar will be provided.
If you cannot attend the live auction, your online bid or bid made at MPBN will become the opening bid. Arrangements can also be made for proxy bidding. If you’d like to bid by phone, you must register with the auction office and provide a list of the items you would like to bid on by June 17. Call 800-884-1717.
