100 Years Ago: 1922
When William Pillsbury and Ernest Wells of Phillips were harrowing on the Cushman Farm in Avon recently, they discovered a penny which seemed to be somewhat corroded from long lying in the ground, and upon polishing it found the date was 1822. The penny is a little larger than our old-fashioned two-cent piece.
50 Years Ago: 1972
During the month of July, the Central Maine General Hospital Corridor Art Program will feature the works of Mrs. Joanne Ayotte of Thorne Ave., Lewiston, who has done sketches, portraits, seascapes, and landscapes. The winner of many prizes, Mrs. Ayotte is a member of the Androscoggin Valley Art Association and is a graduate of the Portland School of Fine and Applied Arts.
25 Years Ago: 1997
Norma Rice-Gould and Richard Smeltzer will present light classical solos and duets on organ and piano at 7:30 p.m. next Monday (July 14) in the All Souls Chapel on Ricker Hill in Poland Spring. After the concert, the Poland Extension will provide complimentary refreshments in the Maine State Building. An offering of $3 is suggested.
