LEWISTON — The School Committee confirmed two new principals and an assistant principal Monday evening by votes of 8-0.

Jonathan Radtke, formerly on the Portland School Committee, was hired as principal of Lewiston High School.

Superintendent Jake Langlais cited Radtke for his “many successful experiences of leadership, program development, funding, student experiences, and (he) has a focus on relationships and student pathways for success.”

Andrew Bard, former assistant principal at Fairview Elementary School and former principal of Washburn Elementary School, both in Auburn, was hired as principal of Farwell Elementary School. Earlier in his career he taught in the Lewiston School system.

Langlais cited Bard’s five years of experience as a principal.

Ilunga Mutombo, who has served as a guidance counselor at Auburn Middle School and Edward Little High School in Auburn, was hired as assistant principal for Lewiston Middle School.

He completed two master’s degrees in education counseling and education leadership, according to Linkedin. He has also been a football and a basketball coach, winning a state championship with the Yarmouth Clippers boys basketball team of 2022.

“Joining us with years of experience building positive relationships with students in many spaces, including schools, sports, and community, Ilunga comes to us sharing his passion for the success of every student that carries unwavering commitment to building off of student assets, supporting the learning experience, and genuine community strengthening,” Langlais said.

Also, Langlais advised the committee of work being done at Longley Elementary School on Birch Street, which was vandalized in June with damage amounting to tens of thousands of dollars.

“Things are looking really good,” Langlais said. “We’ve done a complete inventory of all the technology and other things that were damaged. We do not have an answer as to how much the damage will be or what what the insurance cost of that is so will continue to update as we get more information,” he said.

“We really appreciate the facilities and IT staff for their response, pride, and commitment to our schools and community,” he said.
