Paul Adalbert Lauziere

TOGUS – Paul Adalbert Lauziere of Lewiston passed away on July 12 at the age of 76 at the VA Hospital in Togus, Maine, from multiple cancers.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa, uncle, brother and friend. Paul was born on May 7, 1946 in Lewiston, the son of Adalbert and Annette Lavigne Lauziere. Growing up, he was very involved with scouting, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout – Troop 118.

He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1965 and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam during 1966-1967 and was honorably discharged in 1968. Following his service in the Army, he worked at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland as a cryptographer.

After returning home, Paul enrolled at the Auburn Maine School of Commerce graduating with two associate degrees in business management and business administration. He then continued his education at Thomas College graduating in 1975 with a B.S. degree in business administration.

On June 21, 1975, he married the love of his life, Helene Maheu, at St. Louis Church in Auburn.

They were together for 47 years and raised two wonderful children that he was very proud of.

Paul worked for the Auburn Post Office on Rodman Road for 36 years and retired November 2010.

During those years, he was very involved with the union and ended his career there as the expeditor. He was also an excellent private investigator and constable for 12 of those years working for different lawyers in the area.

Paul also enjoyed wood-working in his garage building different things, especially toy chests for his grandchildren, other family members, friends, and as auction gifts.

He was a member of Tranquil Lodge, Webster Lodge, Kora Temple Shriners – Provost Unit, a 32 degree member of the Valley of the Androscoggin and Valley of Portland. He was proud to be a member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association and the Widows Sons Masonic Riders Association. He was known as “Paulley” in these two organizations. Paul also belonged to the American Legion, VFW, DAV, NRA, and ADA. Before his decline, he was also a member of a Bible Study group.

He loved being around family and would do anything for them, especially his children and grandchildren. As a grandpa, he enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides in his golf cart at Wild Acres in Old Orchard Beach. Most of all, he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with his friends and family.

Paul was a communicant of Holy Cross Church, Prince of Peace Parish.

He was predeceased by his, parents Adalbert and Annette Lavigne Lauziere and his father and mother-in-law, Jean-Robert and Alice Therrien Maheu.

He is survived by his loving wife Helene; his son John and wife Shawna Lauziere of Buxton; his daughter Anne Saucier of Lewiston; his grandchildren, Cayden and Taytum Lauziere, Brody and Bria Saucier; two sisters, Darlene (Ray) Letourneau of Turner and Diane (Ray) Guay of Lewiston; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Gerald and Celine Nadeau, George and Gisele Roy, and Claude and Doris Maheu; many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to all the doctors and nurses on the Special Care Unit and 3 South at the VA Hospital inTogus for their compassionate care. We would also like to acknowledge the following doctors who took excellent care of him over many years: Dr. Chase, Dr. Beverage and especially Dr. Emmons, his oncologist, for his dedicated care and concern for Paul and the family.

Visitation will be held at Pinette, Dillingham and Lynch, 305 Alfred Plourde Parkway, on Sunday, July 17 from 5-8 p.m.

A mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, July 18, at 11 a.m., at Holy Cross Church, Prince of Peace Parish, 1080 Lisbon Street in Lewiston.

Interment will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mount Vernon Road in Augusta on August 4, at 10 a.m.

Veterans, the American Legion or St Jude.
