ATLANTA, Ga. — The National Society of High School Scholars recently announced that it has selected student Matthew J. Ashton of Lewiston to become a member of the organization.
The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment. The announcement was made by James W. Lewis, NSHSS co-founder and president.
“On behalf of NSHSS and our co-founder Claes Nobel, a member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, I am honored to recognize the hard work, passion, and commitment that Matthew has demonstrated to achieve this level of academic excellence,” said Lewis. “Matthew is now a member of a unique community of scholars — a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”
NSHSS members automatically become lifetime members at the time of their initial membership.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
