HARTFORD — Authorities believe a tipped-over candle is to blame for a late Saturday morning fire that ripped through a Hartford home.

Chief Shane Gallant of the Canton Fire Department said the fire was reported about 11 a.m. Saturday at a home located at the corner of Stetson and Town Farm roads.

Names of the occupants were unavailable Sunday evening. Gallant said that the home is considered a total loss. The State Fire Marshall’s Office investigated the blaze and a candle that tipped over and caught some paper on fire is believed to be the cause.

About 20 firefighters from Canton, Sumner, Turner, Buckfield, Livermore, Peru and West Paris all responded to the scene.
