Over 25 barrels of empty bottles have been shipped away and also a large number of the kegs. The deputies have also been busy emptying the liquors from the kegs, barrels and bottles into the sewer. A Lewiston family is now in the process of building an air raid shelter in the event of an enemy attack in this area and they are preparing for it.

The work is being done by Bill St. Hilaire and his son Richard.

It is being done in the cellar of Richard’s home and it’s expected to be able to handle at least 15 members of the immediate family in the case of attack.

Such shelters have been in the minds of many since President Kennedy’s forceful talk last Tuesday. Scores of people have applied for plans and information at local CD centers.

With the price of fuel oil far below what it was a year ago, customers are scrambling to stock up before the cost goes back up, according to a spokesman for an area dealer.

“Sure they’re taking advantage of it,” said Janet Lausier, credit manager at Dead River Co., in Auburn. “A lot of people are calling up for deliveries because they’re afraid the price is going back up.”

Lausier said the company’s current price of 52.9 cents a gallon compares with 85.9 cents last July, $1.03 in July 1984 and $1.04 in July 1983.
