HARRISON — A South Paris teenager was arrested Thursday in connection with a crash nearly two years ago that resulted in the death of an Oxford man.
The woman, 18, was charged with manslaughter, elevated aggravated assault, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and aggravated driving to endanger.
Because she was 17 when she crashed, police did not release her name.
Investigators said that on the early evening of Oct. 21, 2010, the teenager was driving north on Waterford Road in Harrison when she lost control of her Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The vehicle slid off the road and struck several trees, police said. Inside the Trailblazer, the driver and two Waterford men were hurt and a teenager was dead.
Killed in the wreck was 19-year-old Thomas McLendon of Oxford. Injured were 21-year-olds Timothy Coffin and Jacob Hill, both of Waterford.
The crash was investigated by sheriff’s deputies from Oxford and Cumberland counties as well as by Windham police. Investigators said speed was the primary cause of the crash.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating the wreck and consulting with the district attorney’s office. It was not clear what led to the decision to make the arrest on Friday.
The 18-year-old was set free on a juvenile conditional release, police said. She is scheduled to appear in Bridgton District Court on Aug. 22.
