LIVERMORE FALLS — A 28-year-old man faces multiple charges after police received reports of a stolen car and a disturbance at an apartment complex.

Patrick Daniels of Livermore was arrested on a felony charge of theft by unauthorized taking and charges of refusing to submit to arrest by physical force and disorderly conduct, Livermore Falls Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.

Police were called to a Meadow Brook apartment at about 9:45 p.m. to intervene after Daniels showed up there taunting, yelling and trying to start a fight with residents, Steward said.

Daniels was initially in Winthrop and made threatening calls to people at the apartment before showing up in Livermore Falls, Steward said.

But before Livermore Falls police Sgt. Stephen Allen could get to Meadow Brook apartments, Daniels had taken off.

Police were then called about a car in the ditch on Moose Hill Road about 30 seconds away, he said.

While the officer went to check on the vehicle, Daniels went back to the apartment and caused more problems, Steward said. The officer was called back to the apartment but Daniels could see the cruiser coming back through the trees and took off again.

Dispatchers then called to report a vehicle stolen from Pallet One. Earlier, police had received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near the lumber mill on Park Street, Steward said.

Jay police Cpl. Jeff Fournier and officer Michael Mejia and Androscoggin County Sgt. Tim Kachnovich were contacted.

In the meantime, Winthrop police called to report a vehicle had been stolen from that town.

While officers stayed at the scene waiting for Maine State Trooper Tyler Stevenson and his trained dog to arrive, Allen went to check the vehicle parked on the road near Pallet One. It was the 2001 Forester reported taken from Winthrop and valued at $5,000.

The vehicle in the ditch, a 1993 Honda Civic, was the one taken from Pallet One, Steward said. The keys were left in it. It was valued at $1,500.

Apparently another vehicle, a Jeep, was moved at Pallet One. Police said Daniels may have tried to take the Jeep but the gas light was on indicating there wasn’t much fuel left.

The police dog led officers through a wooded area and behind some residences to an unlocked shed. They checked but it appeared empty except for some garbage. The dog insisted there was something more there, Steward said.

After checking around, Daniels was found hiding under garbage and cardboard in the shed. He was “forcibly taken out” by the dog and handcuffed. From there, although in handcuffs, officers wrestled him to the cruiser at 11:18 p.m., Steward said. Daniels apparently had been drinking, he said.

Daniels was taken to Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn where he remained Wednesday. He is being held on $5,000 cash bail. He was also placed on a six-hour hold to allow time for Winthrop police to bring charges, Steward said.
