FARMINGTON — Franklin County commissioners agreed Tuesday to sign a five-year lease from Craig Jordan for space for the District Attorneys Office.
Jordan, of Farmington, agreed to keep the lease price at $10 a square foot of heated space for the property at 124 Main St. for the next five years. The only exception is that if heating costs rise above the current costs, there could be an adjustment.
The DA’s Office will have about 2,000 square feet of space in the rear of the building that is next to Family Optometry, a few places down from the county courthouse and across the street from the 12th District Court.
Jordan plans to make some renovations to the space to fit the DA’s needs. A security system will also be installed.
Jordan estimated that he could have the work done within 60 days.
Commissioners and the DA’s staff have been reviewing rental space to move the office out of the basement of the county courthouse.
“They’re convinced and I’m convinced there is sufficient space,” Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said of fellow staff members.
In other business, commissioners set a hearing at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, on a proposal from the Sandy River Riders All-Terrain Club to temporarily use a portion of the 1.7-mile Cook Hill Road in Freeman Township for ATVs to travel on to connect with The Moose Loop trail. It connects Strong to Kingfield and other connecting trails throughout the area. Cook Hill Road is a dead-end road, Commissioner Clyde Barker of Strong said. The problem is a lumbering operation ruined parts of the trail, he said.
