LEWISTON — KeyBank at 12 East Ave. was closed Monday afternoon after a vehicle struck the building, police spokesman Lt. Derrick St. Laurent said.
He did not have immediate information on the driver and the vehicle.
City Building Inspector Steve LeBrun deemed the building safe for employees to continue conducting business, but not near the area damaged, Angelynne Amores, director of marketing and communications for the city, said. The bank closed as a precautionary measure and has engaged an engineer to assess the damage, she said, and it will be up to the bank whether to remain open.
Key Bank declined to comment on the incident.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
