LIVERMORE FALLS — RSU 73 directors voted unanimously Thursday to have Bunker & Savage of Augusta do a building analysis and feasibility study on the high schools in Jay and Livermore Falls.

Both schools named Spruce Mountain High School.

The board’s Facilities Subcommittee recommended the study, which will include building inspections and analysis on code requirement, energy efficiency and cost.

The study is proposed to give the committee and board facts and costs to decide what is the most viable option for the buildings and students. The study is expected to be done by late November, Superintendent Bob Wall said.

The  facilities panel also recommended that the middle school in Livermore Falls remain open this year to use the gym. The board had put money in the budget to heat and decommission it. The academic wing would be heated at a minimum level and the gym would be heated. An estimate to install a new boiler and heating system for just the gym was $160,000. If the board was to approve draining the pipes in the building, it would cost $2,900 but the integrity of the heating system after that would be unknown.

This would give the board a year to decide what they want to do with the building.

LIVERMORE FALLS — RSU 73 directors voted unanimously Thursday to have Bunker & Savage of Augusta do a building analysis and feasibility study on both district high schools in Jay and Livermore Falls.

The board’s Facilities Sub-committee recommended the study, which will include building inspections and analysis on code requirement, energy efficiency environment and cost.

The study is proposed to give the committee and entire board facts and costs to base a decision on what is the most viable option for the buildings and students.

The feasibility panel also recommended that the middle school in Livermore Falls remain open this year to use the gym. The board had put money in the budget to heat and decommission it.
