BASEBALL
Alex Binelas singled home automatic runner Corey Rosier in the top of the 10th inning, Matthew Lugo followed with a double for his third RBI of the game, and the Portland Sea Dogs earned their fifth straight win Sunday with a 6-2 victory over the Erie SeaWolves in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Lugo was 3 for 5 and tied the game with a two-run single in the eighth.
Five pitchers combined on a five-hitter for the Sea Dogs, who improved to 16-5. Luis Guerrero got the win after two hitless innings.
GOLF
PGA: Tony Finau closed with a bogey-free round of 5-under 66 to secure a three-shot victory in the Mexico Open at Vallarta, Mexico.
Finau finished at 24-under 260. Masters champion Jon Rahm (67) was the runner-up at 21 under.
LPGA: Hannah Green of Australia made a 25-foot birdie putt on the final hole to join a three-way playoff, and then won the JM Eagle LA Championship in Los Angeles with a par on the second playoff hole.
In a wild finish that featured a five-way tie for the lead late in the final round, Green made birdie for a 2-under 69 to join Aditi Ashok of India and Xiyu Lin of China in the playoff.
Ashok, who had the 36-hole lead, and Lin each closed with a 67 and were the first to post at 9-under 275. Green and Lin birdied the first playoff hole on the par-3 18th.
LIV: Talor Gooch became the first player to win back-to-back LIV Golf titles, beating Sergio Garcia in a playoff at the LIV Singapore tournament.
Gooch and Garcia were never more than a stroke apart in the final round and finished at 17-under 196. Gooch then won the playoff with a two-putt birdie on the par-5 18th.
DP WORLD TOUR: Pablo Larrazábal shot a 5-under 67 in the final round of the Korea Championship to complete a two-shot victory over Marcus Helligkilde at Incheon, South Korea.
The Spaniard’s 12-under 276 total at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea was good enough to secure his eighth European tour title.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Steven Alker won the Insperity Invitational for the second straight year, closing with a 6-under 66 for a four-shot victory over Steve Stricker at The Woodlands, Texas.
AUTO RACING
NASCAR: Rain postponed the Cup Series race at Dover Motor Speedway until noon Monday.
This is the second straight year Dover’s only Cup race was postponed because of rain. Martin Truex Jr. has won twice at Dover on Mondays.
INDYCAR: Scott McLaughlin surged past pole-sitter Romain Grosjean with 19 laps to go and was unchallenged the rest of the way as he won on the permanent road course at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.
Grosjean, a former Formula One driver in search of his first IndyCar victory, came close again with his second runner-up finish of the season. Will Power, McLaughlin’s teammate and a two-time Barber winner, took third.
FORMULA ONE: Sergio Pérez took advantage of a fortunately timed safety car to beat teammate Max Verstappen in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Pérez took the lead when he saved time by pitting during a safety car period after Verstappen pitted a lap earlier.
Red Bull has won all four Grand Prix races this season. Pérez cut Verstappen’s standings lead to six points.
SOCCER
ENGLAND: Erling Haaland scored his 50th goal of the season as Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 victory at Fulham.
Haaland tied Alan Shearer and Andy Cole’s joint record of 34 goals in a Premier League campaign. City climbed one point ahead of Arsenal with six games remaining – one more than Arsenal.
Fulham lost fullback Tim Ream to a suspected arm fracture after the 35-year-old American slipped and landed awkwardly in the first half.
• Callum Wilson came off the bench to score twice as Newcastle strengthened its Champions League pursuit by winning 3-1 at home against last-place Southampton.
• Manchester United edged toward a return to the Champions League with a 1-0 win at home against Aston Villa.
Bruno Fernandes struck in the 39th minute after Marcus Rashford’s shot was pushed away by Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
• Substitute Diogo Jota scored a stoppage-time winner as Liverpool beat Tottenham 4-3 in a wild finish at Liverpool.
Trailing 3-0 after only 15 minutes, Tottenham rallied to make it 3-3 through Richarlison’s strike in the third minute of second-half stoppage time.
But Jota responded almost immediately to secure a fourth straight win in the league and boost Liverpool’s bid for Europa League qualification. Liverpool moved up to fifth place, two points ahead of Tottenham with a game in hand.
TENNIS
MADRID OPEN: Carlos Alcaraz reached the round of 16 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Grigor Dimitrov, and two-time champion Alexander Zverev cruised past qualifier Hugo Grenier 6-1, 6-0 in less than an hour.
In the women’s draw, top-ranked Iga Swiatek advanced with a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 win over Bernarda Pera. Third-seeded Jessica Pegula had to work harder on her way to a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win over Marie Bouzkova.
