Rangeley’s community radio station, WRGY 90.5 FM and streaming at WRGY.Org, kicked off its participation at this season’s festivals with a table and broadcast equipment at the King of the Mountain snowmobile races at Saddleback on April 22. Volunteers for the station manned a booth at Saddleback’s lodge during the event, introducing visitors to the station and its programming, handing out stickers and newsletters, and raffling off WRGY Loon T-Shirts. The highlight of the station’s involvement at this popular event which attracted snowmobile riders and fans from throughout New England, were the live interviews that WRGY Vice President Russ Murley conducted throughout the day with racers and fans alike.
WRGY plans to participate in several of the upcoming season’s special events, as was done last year. And, as with the King of the Mountain races, WRGY will plan to conduct interviews and live broadcast at these events so that those who live and visit Rangeley can participate in the fun, even if they cannot personally attend. The station’s participation in community events is part of the WRGY Board of Director’s community engagement plan. The Board, which was elected in November, has developed a community engagement strategy to reach-out to the community to make sure the area is aware of what the station has to offer, as well as to make sure programming provides what our listeners want to hear.
