Chief Rowe has received complaints from residents near the Little Androscoggin River in “New” Auburn, of men and boys who insist on bathing nude near the dam. Chief Rowe says that unless the practice is stopped they will be prosecuted.
50 Years Ago: 1973
Construction of the new Lewiston Central Fire Station is now six months behind schedule, and the Lewiston Fire Commission voted last night to get a definite answer on a definite completion date.
25 Years Ago: 1998
The tri-county area of Maine desperately needs more foster homes for children of all ages, including babies, state officials said Thursday. Kevin Concannon, commissioner of the Maine Department of Human Services, honored a small group of foster parents during a luncheon at Marois in Lewiston, calling them “the National Guard without the trucks.” “I don’t think the average person thinks about (foster parents) until it affects their lives,” Concannon said. “It’s really tremendous what you’re doing.”
