WILTON — Prism Jazz Band will perform this week at the town’s Third Thursday program starting at 5:30 p.m. downtown near the monument, KeyBank and Mandy’s Pizza.
Proceeds from the music and silent auction will benefit a new children’s playground at Bass Park. Organizer Betty Shibles invited the public to sit and listen to the music or dance.
Tours of the Bass Wilson building will be given by owner Randy Cousineau. The silent auction will be held in the building, which is 60 percent occupied.
Several local businesses have provided items for the auction, including a dinner for two at Kawanhee Inn, a one-night stay at Comfort Inn, 10 Narrow Gauge Cinema passes and more.
There are activities planned for children, Shibles said. Boy Scout Troop 517 will have regatta races, and children may participate in chalk drawing, face painting and bubble blowing. A blacksmith will give demonstrations at the Wilton Historical Museum and a small farmers market is planned. Dutch Treat ice cream and specials are offered by the downtown eateries.
Shibles hopes a few more antique cars to be displayed than at the three previous Third Thursday nights.
“If we can get the band we want, Shepherd’s Pie, we’ll do one more on Sept. 17 and that will be the last one,” she said.
