WINTHROP —   Robin Baxmann recorded a hat trick in the first fame and added another goal in the second as Mountain Valley rolled to a 4-0 victory over Winthrop in MVC boys’ soccer action Wednesday.

Baxmann managed three goals on his own, while Josh Rainey assisted with his fourth tally. Kyle Gauvin and Dakota Jacques split time in goal for the Falcons (4-3-1), with a total of six saves between them.

Cameron MacMillan turned aside 12 shots between the posts for Winthrop (0-7-1).

Hebron 10, CVA 2
HEBRON —   Olivier Knight-Rouleau registered a hat trick Wednesday to propel Hebron to a 10-2 rout over Carrabassett Valley Academy in a boys’ soccer matchup.

Sam Blanchet, Pier-Michel Lapointe, Dan Warner, Tavis Gibbons, Jake Bosse and Javier Lopez also tallied for the Lumberjacks to complete the scoring.

Yago Novoa-Diaz and Corrie VanHaasteren combined to make six saves for Hebron.

York 6, Poland 0
POLAND —   James McCafferty netted a pair of goals in the second half Wednesday to lead York to a 6-0 romp over Poland in WMC boys’ soccer action. 

Theodore Bullock, Kyle Robinson, Thomas Rasche and Ryan Lusty also tallied for the Wildcats (7-1-1). Nathan Diffin and Adam Legg split time in net for York, yet neither was called on to make a single save.

Dillon Douglas, on the other hand, was quite busy between the posts for the Knights (2-6) with 15 saves to his credit.

Greely 3, Gray-NG 0

GRAY — Will McAdoo and Ted Hart each recorded unassisted goals as Greely (4-5-1) shutout Gray-New Gloucester, 3-0, in a boys’ soccer game Wednesday.

Greely keeper Elijah Leverett made six saves on eight shots.

Field hockey

Hall-Dale 2, St. Dom’s 0
AUBURN —   The Hall-Dale field hockey squad put up a pair of goals in the first frame and played a strong defense, holding on for a 2-0 victory over St. Dom’s in a WMC matchup Wednesday.

Shanay Gilbert gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage with an assist from Allie Moran. Nicole Pelletier also tallied a short time later with a feed from Brooke Berberich.

Hannah Perry made five saves for Hall-Dale to notch the shutout, while Jenna Fongemie turned aside three shots in the cage for St. Dom’s.

Brewster 3, Hebron 1
HEBRON —   Elise Hennessey led a trio of players to register goals Wednesday as Brewster Academy hustled to a 3-1 victory over Hebron in field hockey action.

Toni DiGeronimo and Allie Hughes also tallied for Brewster (3-0) to complete the scoring. Caitlin Russell made eight saves for Brewster to notch the win.

Elena Hernandez scored the lone goal for Hebron, while Sara Grover turned back 16 shots in the cage. 

Mountain Valley 0, Lisbon 0
LISBON —   After an intense back-and-forth battle that lasted 90 minutes, Mountain Valley and Lisbon had to settle for a 0-0 deadlock in a MVC field hockey tilt Wednesday.

Veteran keeper Emily Gallant made eight saves for the Falcons, while Devon Brewer turned aside seven shots for the Greyhounds (7-2-1).

Women’s soccer

Bates 5, Husson 0
LEWISTON —   The Bates College women’s soccer team broke out with a 5-0 victory over Husson University on Wednesday, winning their first game of the season in their first non-conference contest.

Bates senior Lauren Dobish scored her first career goal in spectacular fashion to put Bates on the scoreboard in the 14th minute. Sophomore Julia Rafferty found Dobish open on the left wing and with lots of space to advance. Angling in from the left corner of the penalty area and with a Husson defender closing in, Dobish struck a beautiful left-footed shot over the reach of Husson first-year goalkeeper Jessica Poulin and into the upper far corner of the net.

Bates (1-2-2) went up 2-0 in the 26th minute. In the scramble following a corner kick, senior Amanda Sirianni’s shot was deflected to first-year Dakota Donovan.  Donovan’s first shot was saved at close range by Poulin, but the carom returned to her for an easier putaway on her second attempt. The goal was Donovan’s second of the season.

Bates resumed scoring in the 57th minute via the foot of the Bobcats’ leading scorer, senior Tina Tobin. Junior Bud Arens corner kick was deflected but not controlled by Poulin, and Tobin was in the right spot to clean up for Bates’ third goal and Tobin’s third of the season.

Tobin struck again with 20:04 left in the game on an assist by first-year Nicki Brill, and senior Alix Vandeventer made it 5-0 with 15:08 left.

UNE 2, UMF 1
FARMINGTON —   Erin Bibber netted the game-winner with 5:49 left in regulation as the University of New England posted a 2-1 win over the University of Maine at Farmington in non-conference competition Wednesday at Prescott Field.

Bibber’s goal, a strong individual effort in front of the goalmouth, broke a 1-1 stalemate at 64:11. The unassisted score was Bibber’s first of the season.

After surviving 11 penalty corners by the opposition in the opening half (five in the first 10 minutes), the Beavers (4-3) were unable to weather the Nor’Easters’ (10-0) first corner of the second half as Emily Koehler gave UNE a 1-0 edge at 36:22.

UMF’s Kaitlyn Bullen tied the game at 1-1 at 57:31 when the sophomore struck for her sixth goal of the season with Kashley Weymouth registering the assist.
