A man died Monday morning after a tire came loose from a pickup truck, traveled over the median and hit his car.
Justin Nsenga, 49, was driving a 2018 Mercedes sedan south on Interstate 95 when the crash occurred near the Gray-Cumberland line, the Maine State Police said.
His car was struck by the rear, driver’s-side tire that came off a 2021 GMC Sierra that was headed north towing a camping trailer. The pickup’s tire went over the median guardrail and hit Nsenga’s sedan, police said.
The driver of the GMC, whom police identified as Jean-Francois Chartrand of Saint-Hubert, Quebec, 43, was not injured and neither were his four passengers.
Maine State Police are investigating this crash. Authorities are asking witnesses to call the Augusta Regional Communications Center at 207-624-7076 and ask to speak with Trooper Tom Welch.
