FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue scored a pair of first-half goals a minute apart and held on to nip Messalonskee 2-1 in boys’ soccer.
Sam Taylor scored the game’s first goal on an assist from Ike Doiron, giving the Cougars (5-3-1) a 1-0 lead. Senior Blake Hart registered an unassisted goal a minute later for a 2-0 Mt. Blue halftime lead. Billy Blake put the Eagles (7-2-2) on the board, but couldn’t muster any more.
Matt Crowley turned away 10 shots in net for Mt. Blue. His counterpart Zach Sutherland made a pair of saves in the loss.
Spruce Mountain 2, Mt. Abram 1
JAY — Senior Ethan Hutchins turned away 10 shots, allowing just a single goal as Spruce Mountain slipped past Mt. Abram 2-1.
Jake Freeman tallied the half’s lone score with a goal on an assist from Spencer Osgood 10 minutes into the game. Adam Gettle gave Spruce Mountain (4-6-1) a 2-0 lead with an unassisted tally at the 22:42 mark. Quincy Mitman put the Roadrunners (3-5-3) within a goal, but Hutchins and the Phoenix defense would allow no more.
Josh Beedy made nine saves in net for Mt. Abram.
Mt. Ararat 2, Oxford Hills 0
SOUTH PARIS — Junior midfielder Joey van Note scored the eventual game-winner in the first half as Mt. Ararat edged Oxford Hills 2-0 in KVAC boys’ soccer action Friday.
The Eagles (8-1-2) were engaged in a highly competitive first half before forging ahead with some offensive control in the second half. Kellen Bonnar netted the second-half tally.
Gioalie Aaron Crockett made 12 saves for the Vikings (4-6), while goalie Gabe Pelletier repelled 11 to earn the win in net for Mt. Ararat.
Leavitt 3, Oceanside 0
THOMASTON — Junior forward Christian Fullerton piloted the eventual game-winning goal with 11:40 remaining as Leavitt stung for a 3-0 shutout over Oceanside in KVAC boys’ soccer action Friday.
One minute after Christian’s goal, Zack Fullerton made a nifty cross to Zach Hudner, who flicked the ball over the keepers head to put the Hornets (3-7-1) up 2-0.
Goalie Ben Caron made five saves for the Mariners (3-7-1), while goalie Korey Mulherin prevented three to earn the win in net for Leavitt.
