MINOT — The Minot Historical Society will have their annual potluck supper meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the West Minot Grange Hall. Those attending the supper are asked to bring a casserole or salad to share.
At 7 p.m., there will be a brief business meeting followed by guest speaker, Charles W. Plummer. A living historian, Plummer travels extensively doing first person portrayals of notable figures from the Civil War. He will be portraying John Wesley Adams who served as chaplain of the Second New Hampshire Regiment during the Civil War.
Adams was born in Townsend, Mass., on May 23, 1832, and was a descendant of Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams. Following the war, he served as pastor of several churches in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He died at the age of 83 on May 26, 1915. Plummer has written about Adams’ Civil War experiences in the book “On Fields of Carnage and Death: The Civil War Experiences of Chap. John Wesley Adams of the Second New Hampshire.”
