There is a political ad currently airing on Maine TV in which a group of men and women express their fears that a vote for Rep. Austin Theriault for U.S. Congress will be a vote against abortion — or as one of them put it, “a woman’s right to control her body.”
However, the ad completely ignores the biological fact that what is growing in the woman’s womb is a separate human being, albeit in an earlier stage than, say, an infant or a toddler or a school-age child.
Apparently in the minds of those who made this ad, the old adage “out of sight, out of mind” comes into play, and killing the developing human being within the mother is not considered murder because no one sees it happen.
