100 years ago, 1911
Sheriff Lowe’s special liquor squad was busy yesterday cleaning up the store rooms in the county buildings making room for more wet goods. A large amount of beer and ale was spilled yesterday and 12 50-gallon barrels of hard stuffs were sent away for the alcohol which they contained. A large quantity of wet goods were claimed by the railroad and these have been sent back. The remainder has been spilt and at present the rooms present a neat appearance.
50 years ago, 1961
Mercury readings in the upper 70’s were enjoyed Thursday as the Eastern half of the nation got completely thawed out from the extreme low readings felt during the first part of the week.
Skies were generally fair with some high clouds dotting the mid-afternoon sky. Humidity was at a fairly comfortable level, although increasing later in the day, signifying a change in the pleasant weather soon.
By last midnight, clouds had rolled in, obscuring the sky over Lewiston-Auburn.
25 years ago, 1986
Six people were arrested following a fight on Lisbon Street Saturday night that attracted at least 50 spectators and participants and resulted in injuries to a Lewiston police officer.
Patrolman Lee James was treated for multiple bruises at Central Maine Medical Center and released.
Police said the fight involved a family dispute. A crowd of about 50 people was dispersed from the 347 Lisbon St. area scene following the 10 p.m. incident.
