I have recently taken a position within the Lewiston School Department. Some of the residents from the recent tragic fire were guests in Lewiston High School’s gym.

Many of these people escaped with only the clothes on their backs. Throughout the day following the fire I was assigned to go to various area businesses in Lewiston to retrieve donations for the fire victims. I collected food from Sam’s sandwich shop, Shaw’s and Jami K’s Variety and my colleagues collected many more donations.

I must say how amazed I was at the outpouring of kindness from the community to these unfortunate citizens of Lewiston. The Red Cross was there, as they always are in times of need, to help these unfortunate folks as well. The values demonstrated by theses unselfish actions can and should be an example for all of the children we teach to live by.

Being a first hand witness to the character of Lewiston’s people and businesses, I am proud and honored to be a new member of such a community.
