The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul and Holy Family Church both in Lewiston, and Holy Trinity Church in Lisbon will offer special services Wednesday to mark the first day of the conclave to elect a new pope.
Masses will take place at 7 a.m. at Holy Family Church at 607 Sabattus St., at 8:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church at 67 Frost Hill Ave. and at 6 p.m. in the Dominican Chapel in the upper church of the basilica for holy hour with vespers and rosary.
Each Mass will conclude with a special prayer for the election.
Also, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, solemn bell ringing will take place. The bells at the basilica and Holy Family will ring for three minutes to mark the official start of the conclave in Rome, which begins at 4:30 p.m. local time in Vatican City.
