GREENWOOD — Like other area towns, Greenwood’s tax rate is expected to rise this year. Significant increases in county and school district budgets have contributed to the overall rise in the FY26 budget.
The projected final budget number is $3.7 million after deducting $516,871 in non-property tax revenue. This year the budget was $3.2M.
The warrant has been printed and is available at Greenwood Town Office.
There are 32 articles, two are citizen-driven ordinances and emanate from complainants.
Article 21 is for a noise ordinance. It was brought forth by a Sheepskin Bog Road resident who said her neighbor constantly runs a generator.
The ordinance comes with a price tag of approximately $5,000 for a sound meter that records decibel levels and training in how to properly use the device. The proposed article also addresses the unknown additional payroll cost that will be based on the number of complaints the Code Enforcement Officer, Anne Kwoka, receives.
Article 22 asks the voters to amend the current setback allowance for new residential structures from 10 feet to 25 feet from the property line. For a commercial structure, the minimum setback distance from side and rear lot lines would change to 50 feet. Howe Hill resident, Nate Bellanceau and another neighbor, brought forth the proposed change because of an abutter who they say is running a business without a site plan in their residential neighborhood.
Town Meeting will take place on Sat. May 17 at 9 a.m. in the Legion Hall beside Town Office
