LEWISTON — The wait is almost over for fans of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

Franchise owners of the Southern purveyor of fried chicken were in Lewiston on Wednesday and gave the Sun Journal a sneak peek at the new quick-service restaurant at 841 Lisbon St., which they say will be open by the end of June.

Construction has been on a fast track since August 2024.

Arsal Arsaljaffery and Deven Jadav say they have plans to open a dozen Popeyes franchises in Maine. This will be the first franchise in the Lewiston and Auburn market, with other locations in Kennebunkport, West Gardiner and South Portland, according to the Popeyes corporate website.

Jadav and Arsaljaffery say they plan to hire 60 employees for the Lisbon Street location and hiring is underway.

They were reviewing plans and features of the restaurant with the contractor Wednesday.

The chain was started 47 years ago in New Orleans, Louisiana, and is famous for its fried chicken, biscuits and sweet iced tea. The company is owned by Toronto-based Restaurant Brands International, which also owns Burger King, Tim Hortons and Firehouse Subs. There are more than 2,700 Popeyes worldwide.
