DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Mollyockett Chorus, renowned a cappella singers, will perform a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the First Universalist Church of Norway, 479 Main St. Admission is $10 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the First Universalist Church of Norway.
Each year the chorus adopts a theme for selecting songs for that season. This year’s theme is “Mollyockett Jukebox.” The workings of a jukebox have been reimagined by the chorus to include maintenance workers as well as those who play the records. This jukebox plays a variety of music in four-part harmony, of course! Come, join the fun, and hear the Mollyockett Jukebox! — Fayre, Norway
ANSWER: The Mollyockett Chorus, based in Norway, was organized in 1996 and is a chapter of Harmony Inc., an international women’s barbershop organization. Under the direction of Simon Smith of Bethel, the chorus sings lively popular music, mostly from early to mid-20th century, in the barbershop style.
The chorus is comprised of women from all over the Lakes Region and performs at various venues. They frequently perform at the Bear Mountain Music Hall in Waterford, the Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Foundation in Greene, and Poland Spring Resort.
Women who love to sing are always welcome at rehearsals Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. downstairs in the First Unitarian Universalist Church Concert Hall, 479 Main St. in Norway. For more information email the chorus at [email protected] or visit the chorus on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MollyockettChorus.
