Emma Witas scored 17 points, and Dirigo beat Mountain Valley 62-20 in the girls basketball season opener for both teams Thursday night in Rumford.

Abigail Luczynski added 15 points, while both Madison Bradeen and Sophia Nino scored 10.

Madison Blanchard and Chloe Brown led Mountain Valley with six points each.

MARANACOOK 42, WINTHROP 25: Jackie Clark paced the Black Bears with 14 points in a season-opening win in Winthrop.

Gracie Farrell added nine points.

Evelyn Mortimer led Winthrop with seven points.

EDWARD LITTLE 1, CHEVERUS/YARMOUTH 0: Jared Powers scored from Nolan Heath at 8:03 of the first period, and the Red Eddies beat the Cheverus/Yarmouth co-op in the season-opener for both teams.

Caden Westhoven made 29 saves for Edward Little. Ashton Additon of Cheverus/Yarmouth stopped 10 shots.
