Maine State Police are investigating the deaths of two people on Mount Desert Island after their bodies were discovered Tuesday morning.

Southwest Harbor Police responded to a scene near Big Rocks Road in Tremont just before 9 a.m. after a caller to 911 reported the discovery of two deceased adults. Tremont is located south of Acadia National Park.

State police believe this was an isolated incident, and there are no ongoing public safety concerns.

Police are investigating the deaths in coordination with Southwest Harbor Police. The bodies were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where autopsies will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.

A spokesperson for state police did not immediately respond to a request for further information.
