Tony Miller, an 18-year-old Lewiston boy, testified in the Lewiston police court Friday morning that he never went to school a day in his life. He came to this country two years ago. He has a brother and a sister here. It was alleged that he stole a quarter from a pool room in the Osgood block. His brother Bartley Miller testified that he could not manage the boy who has stolen before. He was placed on probation under officer Smith for two months.
50 years ago, 1961
A total of 101 measles cases, highest weekly count this season, was reported to the Lewiston Health Department during the week ending yesterday.
About 365 cases of measles have been officially reported in the past seven weeks. Countless other cases are believed to go unreported each week as the disease continues on the rampage in the Textile City, affecting school-age youngsters primarily.
25 years ago, 1986
A fire which police say is being called “suspicious” broke out in the grandstand area of the Lewiston Fairgrounds early Monday night.
Deputy Fire Chief Richard Guay said the fire was concentrated in the area around the main entryway to the betting areas beneath the grandstands. There was some damage to areas on either side of the entryway, but it was contained less than 20 minutes after the call was received.
