MEXICO — A local man suffered serious head injuries after he was thrown from his motorcycle and hit a concrete barrier Sunday afternoon.
Brandon Gotto, 32, of Mexico was traveling south on Route 2 at about 3:22 p.m. when his motorcycle left the road and went into Rowe’s Delight parking lot, Mexico Police Chief James Theriault said.
“We believe he saw what he was headed for and dumped his bike,” Theriault said. “He was thrown and he hit a concrete barrier on the other side of the parking lot.”
Theriault said Gotto was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
“Speed was also a factor” he said.
Gotto received a serious head injury when he hit the concrete barrier, Chris Moretto, assistant chief with Med-Care said.
“He was transported to Rumford Hospital and then taken by LifeFlight to a hospital in Lewiston,” he said.
Darlene Ryder, a public relations employee at Central Maine Medical Center, said Gotto was in good condition Monday.
Theriault said there was minor damage to Gotto’s 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Cpl. Justin Brown of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department was reconstructing the accident.
Theriault said he did not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.
