ANSWER: Last year, SeniorsPlus delivered more than 170,000 meals to 1,800 homebound older adults and adults with disabilities in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties through its Meals on Wheels program. Each meal provides one-third of the recommended daily allowance of nutrition, a safety check, and a visit to these vulnerable adults.
I want to add that at SeniorsPlus, volunteers play a vital role in enriching the lives of older adults and adults with disabilities. Whether you’re looking to connect with others, give back to your community, or make a meaningful impact … there’s a place for you at SeniorsPlus. Explore all the volunteer opportunities that include connecting to seniors with friendly phone calls, delivering meals in both Androscoggin and Franklin counties, assisting with budgeting and paying bills, and Medicare counseling (training is provided), social dining assistance in various locations, and front desk support at the Wilton office.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’ve had some serious medical issues this winter and with the seemingly endless snow falling from the sky, I’ve needed extra help. I don’t know who is doing this but someone in or near my neighborhood is clearing my steps and walkway and leaving me little treats. So far, I’ve received a loaf of pumpkin bread, Valentine’s Day cookies, a puzzle book and other books, a beautiful scarf, a prayer shawl, and a basket of cheese, fruit, and crackers. Every goodie has a cute little note with drawings. I can’t eat some of the foods but I really appreciate everything and share this abundance with family when they come to visit.
I keep watching out for this mystery person/people and sometimes have a quick glimpse but they are always bundled up. I wonder if they are folks from the church around the corner.
My daughter suggested we send a letter to you, Ms. Sun Spots and she wrote this for me. Perhaps whoever my secret helper is will see it. I wonder if the person will knock on my door and introduce themselves so I can thank them for real!
I will turn 95 in April, God willing, and have been reading your column for many, many years. Keep up the good work! — Edie, no town
ANSWER: We pray that you’ll get stronger every day and rest in the knowledge that people care for you and are thinking of you. I join you in thanking the folks who are visiting you “under cover.” What beautiful, generous hearts they have!
