DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m a volunteer with Rebuilding Together Lewiston/Auburn and am wondering if you could help us with our project of finding homes to renovate this year. This nonprofit organization is supported entirely by contributions of time, labor, materials and money. We are dedicated to repairing homes of those who, due to financial hardship, age, and/or disability, cannot do the work themselves. Skilled and unskilled volunteers, alongside able-bodied members of the recipient’s family and friends, complete the repairs at no cost to the homeowner.
The work is conducted one weekend a year. This year’s Rebuilding Day is May 16. We will be accepting house applications until March 31. Applications can be found on our website at: www.rebuildingtogetherla.org. You can also contact us at [email protected] and request one to be sent via mail. Skilled and unskilled volunteers are also needed. If you would like to volunteer, please contact us through the email address above. — Shanna, Lewiston
ANSWER: I’m happy to help spread the word. If you or someone you know needs home repairs and would qualify for this program, or if you are willing to spend one weekend in May using your time and skills to benefit someone in need, please respond to this request.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Delta Kappa Gamma, local Mu Chapter, an international society of retired and current women educators, is providing our Recruitment Grant, a $1,000 scholarship awarded to a high school senior enrolled in a school of higher education and planning to become a teacher.
This year’s scholarship is available to a student from a school in the central Maine area. Priority will be given to children and grandchildren of DKG members.
Applications can be acquired at area school guidance offices or email a request to [email protected]. The student must mail the completed application to the address (on the application) by April 17, 2026. — No name, Auburn
ANSWER: It’s the season when graduating seniors are seeking funds for their continuing education. Students, searching for these opportunities can take some time and energy, but it’s always worth it. There are funds to be had at the local level to assist you with meeting your expenses as you forge onward into your future. Seek out the organizations you think would be a good match for your needs and/or degree. There are nonprofits, businesses, and individuals who are willing and able to financially support your dreams.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: At the Fairbanks Union Church in Farmington, we are grateful for all the folks in Sun Spots Land who so graciously donate Christmas items for our big holiday sale every year.
Because we were so successful with our last sale, we will hold the Christmas Decorations Sale again in November. We accept donations of anything Christmas — trees, wreaths, outdoor decorations, ornaments, dishes, knickknacks, linens, and books, to name a few.
For questions and further details, please contact Cindy at 491-4017, Carole at 860-6334, or Celia at 462-7345. — Cynthia, Farmington
ANSWER: The church is at 583 Fairbanks Road. Give the ladies a call to arrange a drop-off date and time. Now is as good a time as any to reorganize those bins of ornaments, lights, etc.
