Three defensemen and a goalie were announced Tuesday as finalists for the Evans Spear Award, which is given to the top senior boys hockey player in Class B South.
The finalists are:
• Andrew Collins, who has scored eight goals and assisted on 18 others while helping Gorham/Massabesic reach Wednesday’s B South final against York/Biddeford/Old Orchard Beach.
• Ethan Patterson, who recorded eight goals and six assists for Brunswick/Freeport.
• Alex Mainville, a defenseman who also plays forward, was Cape Elizabeth’s third highest scorer with nine goals and three assists.
• Kennebunk/Wells’ Richard Pocius, the lone goalie, finished with a 1.55 goals-against-average and a .937 save percentage to go along with a 14-5-1 record.
The award, named in memory of Evans Spear, a 2000 Yarmouth graduate who died in 2004, will be handed out during the Class B South Awards Banquet on Sunday, March 15, at the Keeley Banquet Center in Portland.
MONTHLY HONORS
Levi Wagner, Alex Mainville and Richard Pocius have been chosen as February players of the month by the Class B South Hockey Coaches Association.
Wagner, a senior who plays for Gorham/Massabesic, is the forward of the month after scoring four goals and nine assists in six games.
Mainville of Cape Elizabeth is the defenseman of the month. He recorded a goal and an assist while helping the Capers win three of their final six regular season games.
Pocius is the goalie of the month after going 5-0, including two shutouts, for Kennebunk/Wells during the month’s regular season games. He recorded a 0.80 goals-against-average and a .961 save percentage
UNIFIED BASKETBALL
OXFORD HILLS 74, EDWARD LITTLE 72: Annika Thibeault and Ben Stell scored 14 apiece to lead the Vikings to a two-point win over the Red Eddies on Tuesday in Auburn.
Joshua Peace scored 22 points and Eliot Chalas added 12 for Edward Little.
POLAND 64, OXFORD HILLS 62: A basket by Keegan Weiss gave the Knights the victory over the Vikings in a tightly contested game Monday in Paris.
Weiss finished with 10 points. Noel Jordan led Poland with 12 points.
Oxford Hills was led by Ben Stell’s 16 points, while Annika Thibeault and Skylar Simas added eight points apiece.
