DEAR SUN SPOTS: St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center is seeking volunteers to join our wonderful team. Volunteers help transport patients within the hospital, assist with departmental projects, deliver flowers to patients’ rooms, greet patients, provide directions to departments, and more.

The only requirement is a desire to help others in a friendly and personable manner. If you would like to be part of serving the community in a meaningful way and can commit to volunteering two to four hours per week, please contact St. Mary’s Volunteer Services Department at 777-8368, or visit our website for an application at https://tinyurl.com/kz4mb4f5. — Mariah, no town

ANSWER: If you have a positive disposition, enjoy helping folks, especially those who may be stressed and going through a difficult time, you could be the Sun Spot in their day. There are lots of varied tasks and it’s clear that there could be something to suit you.

I cannot say enough about volunteering. Oftentimes, these positions can lead to a paid job if you’re interested, you will certainly make new friends and may even join forces with someone you already know. The most important thing is that you will be helping others in myriad ways. Yes, YOU could make a big difference in someone’s experience, day, and even their life.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for a recommendation for a naturopathic practitioner. I don’t mind driving up to 50 miles from Lewiston to be the patient of a good one and would love to be referred by other Sun Spot readers. — No name, no town

ANSWER: You can start with https://www.mand.org/maine-s-naturopathic-doctors, the website for the Maine Association of Naturopathic Doctors. It’s great to have recommendations from readers though, so I hope we get some!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I got a cute, upholstered swivel chair for free and want to have it reupholstered. I know you’ve recommended people before. Can I see that list again? Or is there someone who would be willing to teach me? I have the fabric picked out. — Lindy, Poland

ANSWER: In the Rolodex, I have Doreen Gendron at Unique Designs (754-0048), and Donna Marie Harrington at Comfy Cushion Upholstery by Donna. You can reach her at 212-6195 or e-mail her at [email protected]

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Are Chicken Soup for the Soul books still being published? I heard they went out of business. My mother and I have lots of older titles and we love the books but I’m not seeing any new ones lately. — Carol, no town

ANSWER: You can find information about Chicken Soup for the Soul books here: https://www.chickensoup.com/. You can order them from this website or from Amazon. Barnes & Noble and Walmart also carries them. If you have a local bookstore you like to patronize and the books aren’t on the shelves there, just ask them to order the books you’d like for you … and check out your local library if you have favorite older titles you want to revisit. There are always new volumes coming down the pipeline so if you need something to make you smile, or a sweet gift for someone else, these books are always a good choice.
