FARMINGTON — Turkeys, pies and all the fixings were prepared for the 12th annual free Thanksgiving dinner served by Scottish Rite Masons of Augusta Valley and volunteers Thursday at Mt. Blue High School.

That’s 22 20-pound roasted turkeys, 70 pies, potatoes, vegetables and more.

Volunteers also packaged 318 meals for delivery all over Franklin County, organizer Rufus Cox said prior to the meal. From Stratton to Kingfield to Phillips, volunteers waited to start their routes making deliveries.

Tables were set to feed those attending the meal. Cox, along with his wife, Charlene, started the meal and spent hours preparing to serve others. They are now trying to turn over some duties to others, he said.

This year they were helped by Gerry Gilman, who assisted with the meal organization and operation, along with Cheri Tompkins, who coordinated the volunteers and delivery routes, and many others, he said.

Volunteers cooked, served, delivered and made food donations for the meal. It takes people such as Gilman, Tompkins and the 35-plus volunteers who gave of their time and talents, he explained.
