Much has been written about Maine’s very important Senate race this year, with pros and cons of each candidate. But little has been published about Graham Platner’s grassroots organization and his goal to politically empower ordinary Mainers by coming together beyond the distinctions of progressive/conservative or right/left.

As Graham describes, there is really only up/down when it comes to political power and that means we must take control back from the wealthy. Supporting Graham is a strategy for equalizing the political playing field.

As a 75-year-old volunteer in the Platner campaign, I am working, as Graham says, “to rebuild the social fabric of our communities.” We volunteers are transforming politics in Maine by helping local people have a voice in governmental policy and decision-making. By engaging with neighbors and community members, we are discussing issues that bring us together, not focusing on the cultural issues that separate us.

The primary election is coming up on June 9 and any registered voter may cast an absentee ballot instead of voting in person at their polling place on Election Day. This year, voters who are registered as unenrolled and did not select a party (about a third of us Maine voters are unenrolled) can choose to cast their vote in either party’s primary. This means that both Democrats and unenrolled voters can cast their vote for Graham Platner in the primary. Please join me and vote for Graham Platner.
